The fit between the two halves is pretty good. I taped both together with strapping tape (it doesn't stretch) and removed the cowl as one piece.
I marked centerlines on the hinges and then drilled them from inside out. The holes are supposed to be 1" apart and the hinge loops also happen to be 1" apart. Very convenient.
