Yesterday was my anniversary. Under the implied threat of extreme pain I didn't work on the plane. Today I fabricated the rear elevator pushrod. My tube cutter isn't big enough so I cut it slightly long with a die grinder and used a file and Scotchbrite wheel to make it square and the right size. The hole locations were set using a piece of tape with the locations marked. Then I prep'ed and primed the pushrod, elevator bellcrank and the vertical stab front spar parts and let them dry. The I riveted the front spar parts together, the bellcrank and the pushrod. Then I set the up and down travel distances for the elevation. I mounted my Smart Level to elevator with it in the neutral position to get a reference point. Then I moved the elevator up and down, took measurements and removed material from the stops until the travels were within what the manual specifies. I also replaced the hinge rod for the trim tab with a longer one and bent it in the shape shown in the last picture above. I then drilled a small hole and safety wired it. |
