Busy day today. I drilled, deburred and riveted on the flap brace and aileron gap fairing. Then I installed the snap bushings for the pitot tube lines. I spent a fair amount of time revisiting my decision to install the pitot tub at the outer rib of the bay next to the bellcrank. I was torn between installing it on the inside or outside ribs of the bay. I again settled on the outside because it would give me enough slack in the lines to be able to pull out the pitot tube abd disconnect it from the outside.

Another "issue" is where to route the lines past the bellcrank. I ended up temporarily routing them between the bellcrank and the spar just to see what the clearances were. It is fairly tight. Vibration could cause it to chafe against either the spar or bellcrank. I think I will re-route them around the bellcrank..

I made an angle bracket from some 3/4x3/4 angle stock, drilled, dimpled and primed it and then rivet it to the outboard rib in the bay I selected. Then I laid the pitot tub backing plate on top of the angle stock and wedged it under the spar cap and then match drilled. Then I drilled holes through the palte and through the angle.

I then drilled the rest of the holes in the plate for mounting it to the skin. Then I clecoed the plate to the outside of the skin and match drilled the holes from the plate. This included the #19 hols for the attach screws. Then I deburred, dimpled and primed.

While the plate was clecoed to the skin, I drew an outline of the stem onto the skin. Then I cut holes in the skin using my unibit. I then further enlarged the hole and made it into the aero shape using a Dremel tool with some sort of carbide tipped metal munching bit. It worked great.

I spent more time with the aileron pushrods and bellcrank. I mounted the aileron alignment tool to the outboard rib and then used the bellcrank jig to set bellcrank to aileron to bellcrank pushrod to the correct length.

The last picture above is of my youngest daughter. She comes into the shop every now and then to make sure I am not slacking off.
